TANIAC™ Brand consulting services are used by our clients to assist with workforce planning activities. Existing data within an organization -- data related to turnover, performance, retirement, etc. -- is combined with information about the availability of specific skills and degrees in the external labor market, and a predictive mathematical model is developed. This model is then used to generate a detailed, customized, written report that identifies future talent gaps, and strategies for addressing those gaps.
The inspiration for the TANIAC™ Brand approach goes back to a lazy Saturday afternoon in London in the summer of 2003. Tucked in a dark corner of the London Science Museum’s Economics exhibit sat an old teaching device built in the late 1940’s. Using flowing water to represent currency, the device was the MONIAC (Monetary National Income Analogue Computer), a visual model designed to show the complex financial interactions that occur in a National economy. As he sat and looked at the relic, Michael Kannisto realized that the model might also be used to explain the delicate relationships that exist in a company’s approach to managing talent. A few years later, during a trip to New Zealand, Vicky Kamahele saw one of these strange devices for herself in the National Reserve Bank Museum. When she returned, the two of them met for three days in a conference room, verified that they could indeed use the approach to make eerily accurate predictions about the impact of recruiting and retention strategies, and started Kannisto & Kamahele to share their approach with other companies.
We believe that every talent-related decision that is made to change one part of an organization has a direct (and sometimes unintended) impact on other parts of the organization. By understanding how all the different elements of talent development influence one another, organizations can not only predict what will happen when they adjust their recruiting and talent management activities, but they can actually design a talent approach that enables the future strategic needs of the business.
